Carlisle Bay enters a bold new era of luxury and purpose
I n the heart of Antigua’s southern coastline, where emerald rainforest folds into a serene, crescent-shaped bay, Carlisle Bay has long defined a rare kind of Caribbean luxury, one that is both understated and deeply soulful. Now, this iconic five-star retreat, a distinguished member of The Leading Hotels of the World and recently ranked among the top 10 hotels in the Caribbean by readers of the UK Condé Nast Traveller Awards, is embarking on the most transformative chapter in its history. In July 2025, Carlisle Bay announced the commencement of a sweeping multimillion-dollar renovation that will redefine the guest experience, whilst honouring the cultural and environmental heritage that makes Antigua so enchanting. Spanning over the next three years and aligned with the resort’s annual seasonal closure periods, the refurbishment will reimagine suites, public spaces, dining venues, and its signature CARA Organic Spa. At the helm of the redesign is acclaimed London-based designer Miminat Shodeinde of Miminat Designs, whose work is celebrated for its sensitivity to place and context. Tasked with blending modern refinement with the authenticity of Antiguan culture, Shodeinde has crafted a narrative that is both timeless and contemporary. “I loved learning about the region’s traditions and heritage, which became central to our design concept,” she explains. “We aimed to balance modernity with respect for local customs, preserving traditional pitched roofs and verandas while incorporating hand-carved furniture, intricate textiles, and locally sourced artwork.”
